HOW TO HAVE MULTIPLE INBOXES IN GMAIL

Google on thursday introduced the multi inbox feature through its gmail labs feature.The new feature--called Multiple Inboxes--allows users to have multiple viewing panes open simultaneously without having to open another browser window. The upgrade gives users a quick view at important labels as well as saved searches

How to enable this feature
You can get started simply by clicking the tiny green icon located right beside the Gmail settings link. Once Multiple Inboxes is selected, there will be several additional panes hanging out beside your main Gmail window where you are free to adjust what you want to view on those areas simply be clicking on the settings link

LOCATE YOUR FRIENDS USING GOOGLE LATITUDE

Gmail is about keeping you in touch with the people you care about, independent of the large, or sometimes small, distances that might separate you from them. That's precisely why email, IM, and voice and video chat are so powerful -- the "where" is irrelevant.

With Google Latitude, a new feature on Google Maps for mobile and a gadget for iGoogle coming out today, we're kind of turning that idea on its head, making the "where" matter again. Latitude allows you to see where your friends are located in real time on a map, anywhere in the world.

Use your Gmail account to join Latitude and you can specify which of your Gmail contacts can see your location. You can choose to automatically detect your best location, share city-level information only, set your location manually, or hide your location altogether. From within Latitude you can communicate with your friends via text message, Google Talk, Gmail, or a good old fashioned phone call. Your status messages and profile picture are synced with your Gmail account, so as you update them on the go, your Gmail contacts will see the changes in real time.

To try Google Latitude, go to google.com/latitude from your computer or your phone's mobile browser. Latitude is available on Android, Blackberry, S60, Winmo, and will be coming soon to the iPhone, through the Google Mobile App.

GOOGLE BUS IN CHENNAI

 

The Internet Bus Project is an attempt to educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives, by taking the Internet experience to them through a customised Internet-enabled bus, which will travel to several towns and cities across India.

For the last few years, Google India has worked to increase Internet usage in our country of a billion people via various products such as SMS Search , Voice Search, and Google Map Maker, translating our interfaces into Indian languages. They've also worked on numerous initiatives to increase the quality of search with useful local information like business listings, railways and flight status, and cricket scores.  They've been witnessing a steady growth in Internet adoption, but as impatient observers, we wanted to do more to directly engage the offline population of India.  

In that vein, earlier today, google announced the launch of the Internet Bus Project – a mobile bus designed to showcase the benefits of the Internet to the people across the cities of Tamil Nadu. They're aiming to reach out to people with limited exposure to the Internet, and the bus will cover numerous Tamil Nadu cities over the next month and a half.
The bus is designed to make a simple introduction to the Internet for a new user.  With a focus on the four themes of education, information, communication, and entertainment, the Internet Bus will be loaded with useful and informative content in English and Tamil. They'll showcase how the Internet can make everyday life simple through services like search, email, social networking, maps and others. 

GOOGLE  strongly believes the Internet is a great equalizing force, and this project represents another way Google is directly engaging with people in India.

GOOGLE AND NASA TO START A UNIVERSITY

Google the IT major and NASA the space major are collaborating to create a new university named as Singular University.

The Singularity University was recently announced at the TED conference this week. It is established based on Ray Kurzweil’s futuristic The Singularity is Near - a very non-mainstream ‘forecast’ on AI, robotics and what future human life would be like. The SU is sponsored by wealthy individuals who support scientific breakthroughs (X-Prize, Google, VCs etc), and had a founding conference comprising who’s-who luminaries in the futuring and ‘extension of humanity and technology’ fields. SU aims to bring together graduate students working in different fields, to look at same problems from different lenses for new breakthroughs. Eg. Nanotech student gets expert briefings in futures studies & finance etc amongst 10 disciplines. Faculty includes science celebrities, and students are also expected to pitch ideas to nearby VCs for funding. SU is located in one of NASA’s research centres in Silicon Valley.

ACCESS GMAIL BEING OFFLINE

Google today announced the much awaited feature the offline gmail.Now you can access your inbox while youre not connected to the internet. So even if you're offline, you can open your web browser, go to gmail.com, and get to your mail just like you're used to.There will be no need to use outlook or something like that.

                                                                     Once you turn on this feature, Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you're connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail's servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored on your computer's hard drive instead of the information sent across the network. You can read messages, star and label them, and do all of the things you're used to doing while reading your webmail online. Any messages you send while offline will be placed in your outbox and automatically sent the next time Gmail detects a connection. And if you're on an unreliable or slow connection (like when you're "borrowing" your neighbor's wireless), you can choose to use "flaky connection mode," which is somewhere in between: it uses the local cache as if you were disconnected, but still synchronizes your mail with the server in the background
                                                                         Offline Gmail is still an early experimental feature.It is currently available to the US and UK users.Soon it will be availablet to all the users.
To setup this feature:

1. Click Settings and click the Labs tab.
2. Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
3. Click Save Changes.
4. After your browser reloads, you'll see a new "Offline^0.1" link in the upper righthand corner of your account, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don't already have it.

PLAY GAMES ON GTALK

www.gtalkbots.com introduced the worlds first gtalk game.Anagram, many of you might be familiar with it or even played many a times back in school and colleges.
A few important points:

GOOGLE GDRIVE

To add to the list of services google is offering GDRIVE is the next in the queue.Gdrive is a cloud-based storage. The Gdrive is a desktop client that keeps local and online files and folders in two-directional sync via a web interface for accessing your desktop files anywhere and anytime. Just connect to any network-enabled computer.

In addition, it's integrated with other Google services to enable editing of supported documents, like spreadsheets and presentations via Google Docs, email via Gmail, images via Picasa Web Albums, etc.

The service has the potential to eclipse even Gmail, Google’s second best-known product after their google.com search engine. That said, it’s no wonder users have been ripe with anticipation for years - yes, that’s how long the rumors have persisted. Gdrive is basically online storage where Google servers have enough capacity to hold the entire contents of your hard drive. It will likely also come with enough brains to do cool tricks now with bigger things down the road - like booting your computer from online drive to load the Google operating system.

Think about it start working on a spreadsheet at home and continue via Gdrive interface at your local starbuck or cafe of choice. When you get home the changes you made to the spreadsheet have already trickled down to your desktop. Are you saying hey that's not new! of course it's not. Think about the power of Google's execution it could change the way the world works.

GOOGLE SHUTS NOTEBOOK,CATALOG SEARCH,DODGE BALL,JAIKU AND VIDEO SERVICE

For google services microblogging platform Jaiku, mobile location service Dodgeball, Google Catalog search, and Google Notebook today is the death day.Though google didn't announce the reason the strategy looks simple to shut down extra costs in this recession times.Not only services google is also planning to cut 70 engineers as a part of the cutting costs.
Thuough notebook will be online all the development will be stopped and browser extension is not supported any more.Google Video will also be downgraded, with users no longer able to
upload video to the service, being forced to use YouTube instead.Google Video, Google’s original foray into online video before it acquired YouTube is switching off uploads; videos currently uploaded to the service will remain. No word yet as to whether YouTube will now accept video longer than 10 minutes, one of Google Video’s still strong selling points today.

Google will no longer actively develop the Jaiku codebase, the service itself will live on thanks to a dedicated and passionate volunteer team of Googlers.Google have decided to shut down the Mashup Editor, currently in limited private beta, in favor of the more powerful App Engine infrastructure.Existing Mashup Editor applications will stop receiving traffic in six months, and we hope you will join our team in making the exciting transition to App Engine.

Gmail tips and tricks

Recently I found out a trick in gmail that I felt very  interesting.The trick is like having a gmail address and making many gmail addresses by using the simple operators like .,+.

Gmail doesn't differentiate between the following addresses
raghubharat@gmail.com
raghu.bharat@gmail.com
r.a.g.hu.bharat@gmail.com
some other mail id with . in middle
                            
                                        The trick here is suppose you have a gmail id yourname@gmail.com you will recieve the mails sent to any combination of your email id with . operator

2) The second trick is using the + operator.You can add some random text using the +operator to your gmail id
FOR EXample: raghubharat+yourtext@gmail.com

                                             Hence beware of spammers who can send emails to these.I recommend you to keep some random number to have a unique id.

As the name says it searches google and yahoo at a time and displays the results in seperate frames in a single website.Now the website is down and it is shifted to polycola.com.It is my all time favourite

1. Joongel ( http://www.joongel.com/ ) -Yhis Search gives results form top 10 search engines. Result page open in a new window with cut bar at the top, which you can use to get results from other search engine.

2. SearchBoth ( http://www.searchboth.com/) - It allows you to search 2 specific search engines in same category at the same time. For example search Google & Yahoo or Monster & Hotjobs at the same time.You can choose which two search engines you are searching and can modify later.

3. Search.io ( http://search.io/) - It allows you to search multiple search engine with the comfort of ever so familiar tabs. It has a tabbed interface for the different search engines as shown in the image.Very fast and simple

4. Zuula (http://www.zuula.com/ ) - It allows you to search over 10 search engine from the same window. By default results from Google are shown. You can chose the search engine from the top bar and get results from other search engine. Works pretty good!

5. PolyCola ( http://www.polycola.com/) - metasearch engine which was previously known as GahooYoogle. It simultaneously searches Google, Yahoo!, Live Search, Ask.com, Dogpile, AltaVista and AOL.It was started with the domain www.GahooYoogle.com in 2005 but it was shut down due legal problems. Currently it is operating with the address www.polycola.com
Its shows search results in two vertical window at a time.

INFO.COM:
A search engine that displays the results from top search engines like google,yahoo,ask etc in the same site.You cannot choose which sites you can use unlike other sites but the results are too goood.
Dogpile is a metasearch engine that fetches results from Google, Yahoo!, Live Search, Ask.com, About.com, MIVA, LookSmart and several other popular search engines, including those from audio and video content providers. It is a registered trademark of InfoSpace, Inc.The Dogpile search engine earned the 2006 and 2007 J.D. Power and Associates award for best Residential Online Search Engine Service. The site was developed in 1996 by Aaron Flin and later sold to Go2net (which was in turn acquired by Infospace). Dogpile is trying to raise $1 million before 2009 to donate to animals in need; They will donate $1 each time someone uses the search engine.
